President of the Moringa Association of Ghana Endorses CTI Grinder
CTI volunteers Ed Galle and Dick Fulmer recently returned from a trip to Ghana and Liberia where they worked with several collaborators to conduct extensive grinder training for 25 trainers on the use of the Omega VI (photo), demonstrate the processing of moringa leaf powder and peanut butter, and present CTI's hand-held corn sheller and the wooden grinder.

Grinder demonstration

President of the Moringa Association of Ghana and friend of CTI, Mozart Adevu, worked with Dick and Ed while they were in Africa, and attested to the quality of the Omega VI for moringa production in his recent newsletter.  (See excerpt)

"Ed Galle and Dick Fulmer, volunteers of CTI, joined me to travel to
Liberia between March 28 and April 4. We conducted 6
demonstrations in 6 separate locations in two Counties, Nimba and
Montserrado for over 260 farmers. The enthusiasm during the
demonstrations was overwhelming and the farmers and
communities indicated the opportunity as a great blessing for them.
The situation during some demonstrations are likened to Acts 3:8 as
the farmers jumped with joy and praised God with the excitement
of the "miracle" of the new possibility for them to mill their
products at such a fast rate. They considered this as great "healing"
of their situation and prayed to God to sustain the lives of those who help them in such "wondrous" ways. We made the demonstration
sessions very practical and participatory. The farmers, especially women, took turns to try their hands on the Omega VI grinder and it was great fun! When some quantity of powder was produced, the participants applauded their efforts and were amazed at the fine and smooth nature of final product...

I will also share these experiences with other countries during my trips and hopefully [the United Methodist Committee on Relief] and CTI could begin a good collaboration to explore the possibility of support for food processing in other countries too."

General Mills Honors CTI Founder with Lifetime Achievement Award

A founder of CTI, active CTI volunteer, and General Mills retiree, George George EwingEwing, was recently recognized by General Mills with a Lifetime Achievement Award.  George was honored for his "tireless dedication and service to helping those in need regardless of location or circumstance and for his exemplary fulfillment of General Mills' mission to nourish communities."  CTI is proud to be fueled by the ingenuity of such people.  Congratulations, George!
CTI Selected as a Finalist for the Buckminster Fuller Idea Challenge Grant
In November 2008, CTI submitted a proposal for a Water Harvesting Community project in India.  There were over 6000 submissions. In January 2009, we were notified that we had been selected as one of 33 finalists, quite an honor.  The winner has been chosen, and while we were not chosen, we are still thrilled to have made it as far as we did.  Our project submission is also included in the Idea Index on the Buckminster Fuller website.
Benefit Dinner Huge Success
CTI held its first annual Benefit Dinner at the University Club (downtown St. Paul) on April 23rd.  By all accounts, it was a great success!   The nearly 200 guests were introduced to the wonderful work CTI does through testimonials by Dick Fulmer, a CTI volunteer who just returned from Ghana in West Africa, and Purnima Ray, who, along with her husband, spent the past several months in India.  Guests also viewed a just-produced video on CTI's collaboration with Meds and Food for Kids in Haiti (watch the website to view this video in the near future).  And to top off a wonderful evening, we raised nearly $30,000.  If you would be interested in hosting a table at next year's benefit and inviting your friends to learn more about CTI please contact Emily (Emily@compatibletechnology.org).
